About this object

The statuette shows a beggar dressed in rags with a small sack hanging at his right hip. He has a heavy beard and carries a staff in his left hand. His right arm is bent at the elbow and he gestures upwards. The rags cover part of his upper body and waist and around his ankles, with the rest being bare. All the flesh parts and hair are carved from ivory, while the eyes are made in white and black glass. His rags and the ground on which he walks are made in wood.
