About this object
The paneling is characterized by the applied pediment over the doorway to the front hall. It is decorated with a band of leaves, a band of egg and dart motif, and a row of dentils. The cornice is made up of two bands of stylized leaves and one of egg and dart in high relief. The indented panels are edged by a narrow molding of egg and dart. Over the mantel, framing the portrait is a vine scroll with flowers and bunches of grapes supported by a ribbon in very high relief in the style of Grinling Gibbons, with the Post coat-of-arms at the top center carved in high relief. This carving was apparently made specially to complement the frame around the portrait opposite, and with the Post coat-of-arms, is probably not old.
