About this object

The oblong box is carved in the shape of a galleon without sails. On the top are two covers which are hinged in the center. The rear cover is carved with leaf sprays. The front one is carved with a seated cupid who is carved against leaf scrolls and is blowing on a horn while a dove flutters above. The rear end has a carved projection perhaps to resemble a rudder. The front is pointed. The sides have two rows of small circular portholes.
