About this object
The outside of the seat of the sleigh is carved with scalloped motifs containing flowers and leaves ending in tassels. It is painted dark green with details gilded. The back of the seat ends in an acroteria, and there is a large finial is at the scrolled foot in the form of an eagle with outspread wings on top of a grotesque animal mask. The runners curve boldly upward at the front ending in a carved gilt finial in the form of a grotesque monster (chimera). The seat is lined with cut red velvet, and there is a multicolored rug on the floor of the sleigh.
