About this object
The bread and butter plate is oval with a shallow oval depression in the center. The relatively heavy body of the base and foot narrow into thin walls that curl under slightly at the left and right ends. The service's three plates (bread and butter, salad, and dinner) are the same design repeated in three different sizes. This allows the plates to be stacked to form a sculptural design, a characteristic motif Zeisel had used in her serving pieces for the 1952 Century line for Hall China Company.
