About this object

A view of Cologne on the Rhine River, surrounded by the wall, decorates the center of this dessert plate. Ships wait at anchor and in the foreground men unload goods from a small boat. People can be seen strolling along the beach. The border of this second rococo plate with scalloped edges is decorated in gold and white with shell and leaf ornament. Around the caveto is a laurel leaf, tied with a bow at the bottom in gold on a bright blue ground.
