About this object
This large plate depicts equestrian portraits of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich and his wife Elena Pavlovna. She rides sidesaddle and wears a velvet dress and plumed hat. The grand duke in uniform rides at her side. Classical buildings in the background complete the composition. Laurel leaves tied at the bottom in a gold bowknot decorate green plate rim, and the double-headed eagle with dropped wings appears at the top.
