About this object
Oval tureen rests on four feet and is painted with pseudo-Chinese scene and other patterns deriving from Oriental porcelains. Cover and bowl have each two of these scenes with men and women engaged in various activities in gardens, serving tea, picking flowers, etc. These probably derive from some book illustrated with scenes of Chinese life. There is a variety of borders and panels with stylized flowers in various colors, a Chinese red predominating.
