About this object
Medallion with the flag of the mercantile fleet in center with double-headed eagle in black on a pale blue ground. In one claw is a white banner with crossed anchors and in the other a wreath of laurel. The frame is painted in imitation of the famous Sevres color, rose de Pompadour. Around this are a gold band and swags of leaves hanging from gilt brackets. On the rim a gold rinceau with acroteria and other motifs in color and is edged in the rose de Pompadour, outlined with gold. This plate may be a replacement made during the reign of Paul I.
