About this object
Pastoral trophies and colorful clusters of fruits and flowers finely painted on a white ground and surrounded by gold frames enliven this tureen. On front and back of the pot is a medallion painted with large clusters of flowers and fruit in natural color. A medallion under each of the two handles is painted with garden tools. The tureen has scroll-shaped handles and is decorated with a band of gilt gadrooning around the upper edge. Four other bands, molded with leafy branches painted in gold, run down the sides to each scrolled foot.

- MARK The platter and pot were originally marked with the crossed L's, the crown and a date letter in gold, now almost entirely effaced. Ther is a ghost of a mark that looks like ff, the date letter for 1783. Each piece is also marked 2000 in gold for the gilder Henri-François Vincent the Younger (1753-1806). The marks were probably obliterated during the French Revolution.
