TUMBLER
Creator(s): Unknown (Manufacturer)
On view in: Russian Porcelain Room
About this object
Glass of the tumbler is unusually thick. Lower section is cut into nineteen facets, each small side containing a stylized plant resembling grape vines or hanging fruit. The upper section is uncut but divided by four tooled and gilded horizontal decorative forms into three separate vignettes. Two show flying birds in oxidized silver, against gilt landscapes consisting of fruit-bearing trees and grasses. The third vignette seems to feature a flower rather than a bird, but is scratched. Above and below each vignette are silvered scrolls, now oxidized. Lip is beveled and gilded.
