About this object
Long-stemmed poppies with leaves swirl in graceful curves up the slim center of each of these tall art nouveau vases. The flower motif follows the contours of the vase’s shape, which rounds out to a bowl at the top and a wide base at the bottom. The art nouveau style was never employed as extensively in Russia as it was in western Europe. Most such Russian objects were created around 1900, thus making these vases a very late production in the art nouveau style.
Vases have large base which narrows, then expands and at top becomes almost globular. It is beautifully engraved intaglio with poppies and leaves that swirl upwards in graceful curves following the contours of the vase.
