VASE IN CRYSTAL GLASS

Creator(s): Steuben (Manufacturer)

On view in: English Bedroom

About this object

This is Sidney Waugh's interpretation of the classical legend of Venus based on the Hesiadic account. Venus rises from the waves with arms upraised and dressed only in her long tress of hair. To the right and to the left, a male figure rides on a dolphin. The design is wheel cut on one side of the base. The vase is shaped like a deep bowl with a wide foot. This was presented to Mrs. May by General Foods and is inscribed: General Foods Corporation/Marjorie M. Post/Director/1936-1958
