About this object

Flat conical shaped (unfurled) Asian parasol. Forty bamboo ribs lined with pink silk, embroidered in cream, pink and purple flowers and butterflies. Bamboo ferrule and runner covered in black lacquer paper and bamboo handle. Pink silk cord tie hand-sewn to rib with a knotted closure. Pink silk thread “hair string” is woven in a decorative pattern across the bottom where the stretchers meet the runner.
