About this object

The crown is crossed with two white ostrich feathers creating a base for a symmetrical composition that sprays right and left of the center layered with solid white swan feathers, approx. 10” long, topped with white egret feathers which spray 20” from the center and accented with gray crane feathers with white tips ranging in size from 2” to 10”. The center is filled with white chicken feathers. A large round crown sits off center to the right and slightly to the front. The brim turns up slightly at the edge. The entire hat is covered in striated grey silk velvet which is seamed at the edge and continues just under the brim 1” wide plus self-welt at both edges. The brim turns up slightly more in the front. The remaining area under the brim is covered in pale green taffeta, and cream taffeta inside crown with draw string.
