About this object
Child’s straw hat with down-turned brim and curved crown made of plaited straw braid and lacquered. The hat band is shirred in 3 rows spaced every 2.5”. The band continues at the same width over the brim but shifts so that the sewn rows alternate with that on the crown. Set tight against the bands is a row of silk flowers and leaves, each in groups of three spaced 1” apart, terminating at the back with a six lobe bow made of 4.5”W pale peach ribbon, matching the band against the crown, arranged over horsehair braid to add support and give depth to ribbon. Ties are attached under the brim beginning with rosette of ribbon, each side dropping down to a fixed tie (approx. 9” drop) with a cluster of seven (7) silk flowers to match those on the brim, and drop again to an overall length of 27”. The silk lining is drawn and tacked into place. There is a maker’s label and a .125” elastic band to fit under chin.
