Wedding Crowns are liturgical objects used in the marriage ceremony of the Russian Orthodox Church. They are held over the heads of the bride and groom during the wedding or sometimes placed on their heads. These crowns are used in the Office of Coronation, which is a part of every Russian Orthodox wedding service: on the heads of the bride and groom gold and silver crowns are placed that signify the grace conferred on the couple in this sacrament. The crowns are considered crowns of joy, but also of martyrdom since every marriage involves immeasurable self-sacrifice on both sides.”
