About this object
A complicated network of interlaces in relief frames the watch. The first link to either side contains a miniature that is flanked with strap work in relief. One portrait represents Emperor Nicholas I of Russia in military uniform (after a portrait by Franz Krüger), and the other shows his wife Alexandra Fedorovna wearing a kokoshnik (also based on an original portrait by Krüger). The rest of the slightly convex links are engraved with stylized motifs. Joined by a chain at the clasp is the watch key.
