About this object

The case is in gold, on the dial the hours are marked in roman numerals, chased floral sprays surround the dial, on the back of the case is a rectangular panel containing a miniature of Emperor Nicholas I in colored enamel in bust length, head facing left, surrounding the rectangle are chased scrolls and angular motifs, partially heightened by white and pale blue enamel. The miniature is inspired by a Franz Krüger portrait of Nicholas I.
