About this object

The tall rectangular box is in white enamel with plain mounts at the top and bottom. The four sides and the top are covered to the edges with harbor scenes and classical ruins painted in colors. The top has a ruin of a classical temple at the right, an ecuestrian statue in the center and a harbour scene in the background. The front is painted with three sailing ships framed by trees. The back has a sailboat and three figures in the foreground. The left side has a ruin with arches and several shoremen performing tasks. The right is painted with rests of an ionic temple topped by urns and similar harbour scenes. The inside of the lid is painted with a cluster of flowers.
