About this object

The platform of the inkstand raises from four feet with a step motif. There is another step motif below a curved section with repousse vine scroll and in the front center is an interlaced monogram. The shape of the base is in general rectangular with a curved section projecting on all four sides. At the back of the platform stands a prancing horse on a ground suggesting grass. At the front are two crossed beams to hold the pen and resembling the holders for steeple chasing bars. At either side is an hexagonal holder for the inkwell with repousse decoration on the sides. The two ink bottles in cut crystal glass are of the same shape and have plain silver tops.
