About this object
The samovar's lid is rendered in smooth sheet-like metal and slopes downwards. At the top is a heavy ring decorated in a repoussé design of a rinceau with flowers and heavy leaves. A teapot would have sat on this ring. There are two handles with bone inserts protruding from the smooth lid. The body of the samovar is rectangular, sloping downward, and has a repoussé melon or spoon design. Borders at the top of the body and around the top of the melon or spoon design is decorated in a repoussé design of a rinceau with flowers and heavy leaves. Two heavy handles placed at left and right are decorated in an acanthus design in silvered copper with bone inserts. A spout on the front ends in an acanthus design and has a handle cast with a heavy floral motif for turning the stream of water on and off. The stem is ornamented with a thin band of fine leaves at the center. At the base of the stem, where it meets the pedestal of feet, a series of unornamented holes are punched into the surface of the metal. The pedestal foot rests on a square platform with four feet. The sides and feet are decorated in a heavy repoussé design of flowers, fruit, and leaves.
