About this object
On the cover is a view of Falconet's Monument to Peter the Great in St. Petersburg's Senate Square. The figure of Peter is shown in a mirror image so that he gestures with his left hand and the left rear hoof of his horse crushes the serpent. The space of the square is inaccurately constricted and parts of the Admiralty and Senate buildings are visible to the left and right. All of this is in niello against a stippled and gilded background. The bottom panel is decorated with an allover floral pattern and the interior is gilded.
