About this object

Box is divided all over into rectangular panels separated by bands, the effect somewhat like a strongbox. Top is slightly curved. On top, in niello on a stippled gilt ground is a scene of a seated woman and a dog in front of a brick wall flanked by turrets and two trees. This is surrounded by ten panels each containing a leaf scroll or floral motif. On all four sides are buildings and walls on a stippled gilt ground. On the bottom is a scene with buildings flanked by a criss cross pattern and a vine.
