About this object
A printed Gospel with woodcuts of the four evangelists. The edges are gilt and decorated with floral motifs. The purple velvet binding has five silver gilt and repoussé plaques on the front, the central one with Christ in Majesty holding the orb and blessing with his right hand. At each corner is a triangular plaque with the four evangelists and their symbols, all inscribed in Russian. At the back are five smaller plaques, each with a rosette in repoussé. The clasps are also in silver gilt. The silver work is probably of the 18th century.
