About this object

The wooden frame is mounted in silver. The inner and outer borders are beaded. There are sprays of leaves above, below, and at the sides and wreaths in the four corners, all in silver. At the top is a wreath with ribbons within which is the number XL in silver. The eleven opening for the miniatures have borders in silver engraved with a wreath. The silver numbers for the year are missing. The miniatures are of Emperor Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, their children, Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Alexei and Anastasia, Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaievich, uncle of the Emperor, Grand Duchess Anastasia, wife of Grand Duke Nicholas, Grand Duchess Xenia, sister of the Emperor and Grand Duchess Olga, sister of the Emperor.
