About this object
An oval box that is hinged. Set in the cover of the box is an oval medallion containing a miniature of the bust of a man. He is dressed in 17th century costume with a heavy wig and a lace jabot. He is facing three-quarters to the right and is framed by a narrow band of diamonds within two garlands of roses tied at the top by a ribbon bow, and two palm fronds below, all chased in gold in relief. The cover, sides and bottom are edged by a band of chased stylized leaves in low relief and enamelled translucent pink over engine-turned cross-hatching.The sides are divided by four panels with chased gold pilasters and drapery.
