About this object
The box's curved shape, typical of the rococo revival style of the mid-XIX century, is decorated with an allover chased and engraved scroll design that is intermingled with flowers and leaves. The same scrolling pattern is repeated on the bottom of the box. The thumbpiece takes the shape of a leaf. On lid is a miniature of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia (after a portrait by Franz Krüger), a half-length portrait in military uniform. Above is the imperial crown in relief and below an inscription.
