About this object

The oval box has panels on the lid and sides which are covered with dark blue enamel to which are affixed various motifs in chased silver set with brilliants. On the lid are three figurines playing musical instruments. They are surrounded by ribbon bows, floral swags, and vine scrolls. The four panels on the sides contain musical instruments and bows and arrows. Between them are clusters of musical instruments in tooled gold with sprays of leaves and berries in chased gold that is enamelled in color. They also edge the top and sides of the lid and the bottom along with ribbon bows and winged cherub heads. The panels are framed by plain chased gold bands interrupted by leaf scrolls.
