About this object
An etui, or bodkin holder, is a decorative container used to hold bodkins (hairpins), toothpicks, or other small tools.
The two pieces of the bloodstone egg are hollowed out. Each piece is held in a chased gold cage with heavy rococo scrolls criss-crossed with heavy garlands of roses. The hinge has an inscription in gold letters on a white opaque enamel ground. The hinge is released by pressing a tiny rose diamond.
