SNUFFBOX
On view in: Marjorie Post's Bedroom
About this object
The bloodstone body of this boat shaped box has a pointed prow, and straight back. The lid is flat and shows a landscape made in openwork chased in gold. The scene is of a tall spindly tree in the center with a house and sailboat, all with a chinoiserie flavor. The scene is surrounded by rococo scrolls. Three bands of similar scrolls descend from the rim down to the body to a small circle at the bottom. The thumbpiece is scalloped.
