About this object

An oval hinged box. The cover has an oval medallion containing a painted enamel scene. It shows a seated youth playing a musical instrument while two women kneel beside him at the right. This is framed three times. First by a narrow band in tooled gold, second by leaves of molded gold enameled green, and third by a string of enameled white dots which also outline the rim of the cover. The cover is edged by a band of leaves and berries in molded gold enameled green and red. The areas between the white dots are enameled translucent dark blue over striped engine turning. The sides and bottom are decorated in the same scheme but without the medallion.
