About this object

An oval hinged box. The cover bears an applied medallion containing a painted enamel scene with a young woman and a young man. They have placed flowers on a round pedestal at the left on which stands a statue of a cupid. A garland and ribbon in gold relief top the upper half of the medallion. The enamel areas at either side imitate lapis lazuli and in turn are bordered by a pink enamel band. The cover is rimmed by half circles in chased gold against a pale blue enamel. The sides have panels of enamel like lapis lazuli-four oval with tooled gold trophies and four rectangular with two crossed leaf sprays, and the area in between in pink enamel. The bottom has the same decorative scheme at the sides.
