About this object

The oval box is hinged. The cover and sides are set withe oval medallions containing chased gold motifs in low relief set against an opaque pink enamel and topped by swags of chased gold flowers and leaves. The surrounding areas and bottom are enamelled in black over engine-turned stripes. The medallion on top shows a standing man playing bagpipes while at his feet is a recumbent female. Above this is a large garland of flowers in gold. The four medallions on the sides contain doves and are separated by narrow gold panels with pedestals. The edges of the cover and of the top and bottom of the sides are banded with green enamel leaves.
