About this object
Two log cabin quilt fragments. The larger piece 45.666.1 has a complete finished edge on one side while the smaller piece has a small piece of the border. The design of this quilt within the log cabin style is called Barn raising. This style is characterized by a light and dark combination of fabrics that when arranged has the effect of overlapping layers. The color strips run from reds, yellows, and browns to plain white. There are calico's and stripes. The backing material is a blue cotton calico of leaves and flowers in white. There is no quilting pattern on the top, but that is not unusual for this pattern. This may have been Mrs. Post's mothers quilt.
