Earth Day

This Earth Day, meet members of Hillwood’s Environmental Action Team (HEAT) on the Lunar Lawn and learn about environmental stewardship initiatives vital to ensuring Hillwood remains vibrant, healthy, innovative, and current, building a sustainable future for our communities and the world around us.

Sustainability at Hillwood addresses everything from the reduction of energy usage to employing beneficial insects and native plants in the greenhouses and gardens. Hillwood staff will also share tips on what you can do at home to support the environment.

Explore the new native garden featuring a bio-retention pond near the Collections and Research Center with Jessica Bonilla, director of horticulture, during thirty-minute tours which depart from the Lunar Lawn at 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. or 1:15 p.m.

Highlights include:

  • Art and Craft Supply Drive
Have art or craft supplies you no longer need? Hillwood is collecting any unwanted, non-toxic craft and art materials for an art exchange! Visitors are invited to drop off and/or give an item a new home while they meet members of Hillwood’s Environmental Action Team (HEAT).
  • Coffee from Merriweather To Go
Bring your own cup or mug and receive free coffee from the café.
  • Native plant giveaway
