About this object

A folded sheet of writing paper written on three sides. A letter from W. M. Thackeray written from Kensington, October 27, 1847 to Miss Thompson asking for her help to have a meeting with a Miss Byerley. "Kensington October 27 1847 Dear Miss Thompson, I shall have very much pleasure in coming to you the muffineering(?) party tomorrow and will dine very lightly at home in order to be quite in order for those refreshments. It is very good of you and Mr. thompson to rememebr the engagement. White told me something of a plot in which I believe you are concerned about Miss Byerly-how could I see her? I don't mean to reach any limits/but if I could find an opportunity of seeing Miss B + at a friend's house I might ascertain whether I should like her: and if I did and if Miss B were willing and if she I might gently convey to her those proposals but might or might not be accepted. Nothing I am sure can be more guarded than this language. But with the suffering of tomorrow I will b e more confidential. With my best thanks to your Mamma. I am your dear Miss Thompson sincerely WM Thackery."
