About this object

The three saints are painted full length beneath the image of Christ Pantocrator with an orb and billowing draperies, emerging in a burst of light from a bank of dark clouds. Directly beneath Christ and standing frontally is St. Aleksii, wearing the white metropolitan's klobuk, a sakkos? with cross motifs, omophorion, and nabedrennik. He holds a gospel in his left hand and his right is raised in blessing. To his right and turning slightly towards him with left hand raised is the youthful martyr St. Dimitrii Tsarevich, dressed in a red and gold brocade gown with richly ornamented yoke and borders. To his left is the Great Martyr St. Catherine, also wearing a crown and holding a martyr's palm frond in her left hand. She wears a a red cloak and blue tunic with gold border over a white undergown. All three figures have full, rosey-cheeked faces, long bodies, and gold sunburst haloes. The ground is painted gray-green with a brown polia. The board is not carved.
