About this object

The mother of pearl guards and sticks are decorated with an inlaid floral design. The body of the fan is composed of areas of cutout floral lace attached to silk. The silk areas are delicately painted with a female figure at left and a putto at right, both standing on a lily pad and each surrounded by flowers, including iris and water lilies. An ivory colored silk tassel hangs from the metal u-clasp at bottom.
