About this object
Marjorie Merriweather Post wore this gray wool dress during her residency at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 1937-38. Her husband, Joseph Davies, was the U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union at that time. The garment has a stand collar and turned-back cuffs that are trimmed in matching gray lamb's wool, and a front placket decorated with eight gray braided cotton frogs. The dress is worn with a 2-inch belt that also has a decorative frog closure at center front. There are lined, inset pockets on each side of the dress, which are trimmed at along the top with a band of lamb's wool.
This tailored, long sleeved dress in gray wool was worn by Mrs. Post at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. The stand collar and turned back cuffs are trimmed in gray lamb's wool. The garment closes in center front with snaps on a center front under-placket, while the outside of the garment closes with 8 decorative dark gray braided cotton frogs. The dress is worn with a 2" belt with a decorative frog closure at center front. Two inset pockets are trimmed at top with a band of lamb's wool.
