About this object

This classic gown from the early 1950s has a full skirt, fitted waist, and fitted bodice with a pleated shoulder drape extending from the front across the back. A cloth corsage of green hydrangeas decorates the opposite shoulder. The hem of the petticoat has layers of green silk and tulle that echo the green corsage.

The fitted, strapless bodice is completed by a pleated shoulder drape extending from the front bust across the back, where it is supported by single, flat straps. A large cloth corsage of green hydrangeas is attached at the left front shoulder. The dress is made from eight gores, increasing in width to a wide bell at hem. The skirt is supported by a half petticoat of stiffened cotton canvas. Petticoat is finished at bottom with a 7-1/2" wide band of gathered green silk covered by a 10" band of flat pleated green tulle. The dress closes at the left side with an inset metal zipper.
