About this object

This black, bias cut evening dress of the late thirties emulates earlier Paris fashions. The bodice and triangular shaped sleeve are cut in one. Sleeves are trimmed with 36" long knotted fringe. Skirt attaches to bodice below the natural waist and is worn high on hip. Bodice and skirt are joined by a decorative diamond shaped panel inset from underarm to below hip on each side. Garment closes at center back with covered self fabric buttons and hand bound button holes on a placket facing. A narrow black sash belt, worn low on the waist, is trimmed at both ends with knotted fringe.
