About this object

Asymmetrical, bias cut evening gown of ivory colored satin with one large pleated, puffed sleeve. The remains of a shoulder strap are visible on right, to which a tulle panel was probably attached (see twin, 48.76). The asymmetrical, cuffed collar is narrow at left, widening to 3" at right where it closes with metal hooks and bars. The dress is constructed of straight grain strips sewn together on the bias to give shape and form to the gown. These strips increase in width toward the base of the skirt, creating the bell shape at hem. Skirt has a slight asymmetrical train at right side. Box pleated silk crêpe trims the hem of the gown. Garment closes on the right side with a metal zipper. The gown has no lining or understructure.
