About this object

Coral velvet evening gown with empire waist and short, slightly puffed sleeves. Bodice is slightly gathered and seamed under the bust. Neck and sleeve are edged with two rows of gathered tulle overlaid with metallic gold thread lace. Two painted velvet flowers decorate the bodice at center front. The skirt is fitted under the bust and flares at hem, culminating in a long train in back. A narrow velvet band is placed over the seam where bodice and skirt are joined, with a flat bow and long ties applied at left. Garment closes with a series of snaps alternated with hooks and eyes. The interior of the dress consists of a lightly boned understructure extending to hip area. A matching rectangular cape completes the ensemble. Three sides of the cape are finished with turned edges; one long edge is trimmed with white fur.
