About this object

This reception dress of pleated pink silk lawn is decorated with horizontal rows of pleated silk ribbon in colors graduating from off white to bright salmon. The low cut bodice is built on a foundation of silk satin. Short circular short sleeves are decorated with the same silk ribbon and large velvet ribbon bows applied at shoulders. Three long sashes hang from center back waist. The skirt is trimmed the same silk ribbons alternated with velvet ribon mounted on pink organza. The interior of the skirt is lined with pink chiffon. Dress was worn with an off-white silk taffeta petticoat with a large knife pleated hem. Note: The insertion of 2-3/4" silk cotton panels at sides of the bodice indicates that it was altered (also note "Hutton" label). To be worn to a fancy dress ball. Skirt was restored at waist and lower edge for display purposes.
