About this object

Cape comprised of two vertical back tabs supported by a crescent collar. The collar starting at the shoulder and increases in width around the back area is double-sided white velvet embellished with medium-sized red beads individually sewn to the collar to form three horizontal rows. Larger cream beads of varying lengths are strung and placed vertically between the red horizontal rows. Four long strands of beads hang on the edge of the front of the collar at each side. The stands of colored beads alternate red, cream, light blue, and black in sections. The total length ends with a rabbit “puff.” One strand and two puffs are missing. The orange cotton silk double-side tabs are decorated with horizontal bands alternating in width in cream, teal, green, and black velvet. Each band is edged with two rows of small colored beads of orange, black, white, and green. The lower section has been further embellished with four different decorative beadwork patterns. All patterns have a triangle shape motif throughout the design. This cape would have been worn with a matching dress, two large metal hooks are sewn to the underside of the collar.
