About this object

This long lavender cape-coat has three quarter length sleeves and is closely fitted through the upper body and full at the hem. The front panel and sleeve are cut in one with an underarm gusset. Sleeves are turned back in a wide cuff. The garment has a padded, rolled collar with square cut points. One fabric covered button fastens the coat at center front neck. A broad back yoke is created from a series of panels and a small triangular sleeve gusset. A full skirt, consisting of three tiers of gathered panels, is attached to the back yoke. Each panel increases in volume to create a dramatic capelike silhouette at back. The garment is unlined.
