About this object

This style of bertha collar was popular from 1895-1905. The collar was probably fashioned from a length of lace originally used for something else, quite prabably a flouce or ruffle. It is made of Burano needle lace with a large scale floral design and varied fillings.

Full bertha collar of Burano needle lace with large scale floral design and varied fillings; based on 18th century Argentan lace. Lace is approximately 7" deep and extends full circle with a 6" overlap.
