About this object

Mat has an octagonal shape and is worked in wool thread. Very fine needlepoint is used in the center, a broad basketwork stitch is used in the middle, and a larger needlepoint is used at the edge. The colors are dark red, black, green and ivory. The central panel contains an eagle with outspread wings perched on a pedestal. The outer edge has an abstract design of a series of pointed and geometric arches. It is backed with a piece of plain moss green wool cloth.
