About this object

A banner made from a patchwork of various furs, and velvets with needlework to join the patches together. The central section has a dark fur, like sealskin, with a narrow border in a light brown fur. The outer border consists of a series of triangles placed alternately in white, grey, black and dyed red sheep fur. In the center of the banner on a yellow velvet ground is the double headed Imperial eagle in black fur with a shield of arms on his right breast and the monogram FJI. Above the eagle is the Imperial crown, and surrounding it is a wreath of laurel leaves and oak leaves with acorns. Below the eagle are three shields, one with a rampant lion surmounted by a crown, one with three shells and the thris with a bird and three crowns. On the right of the central composition are eight shields of arms and on the left are eight more.
